How to play Mahjong – Part 3

According to the previous post (How to play Mahjong – Part 2), most of the people have the understanding about the Mahjong already. From now, let me explain how to play Mahjong and the rules we need to follow.

Mahjong need to be play by 4 people in one table. Basically Mahjong is not very hard to learn, but need very experience in order to win the game. Lucky is also one of the things that need when playing Mahjong. To play a complete Mahjong, players need to prepare a square table which suitable for use of 4 players.

Before the game start, each player need to throw the dice (3 dice will be use in mahjong) to select who will be the first person to throw. The highest roll person will take the first place which is “East”, and then the following higher number will be the ”North”, the third person with ”West” and the last with ”South”. The wind tiles for each player is depend of the site they are. Which means the first player who is “East” can be throw the dice in the particular game.

Players need to complete all 4 wind place in a Mahjong game. The first wind place is “East”, second is “North” and the following are “West”, and then the last one is “South”. Each player got a chance to throw the dices in a circle / round. After the last player of the round throw already, then that round will be end and the wind place of that round will be terminate and change to the next one which is ”North” and soon. The player who throw the dice and win on a particular game will have a chance to throw the dice again.

How to play Mahjong – Part 2

A set of Mahjong tiles will be different from place to place. Each of the Mahjong tiles having different meaning. Let us find out what exactly a set of Mahjong tiles have.

108 suit tiles which consist of 36 of Dots tiles, 36 of Bams tiles and 36 of Characters tiles.

Dots



Each tile of dots consists of a number of circles. Different dots tile consist of different number of circle and are start from 1 to 9. We also call dots as “Tong” in mandarin.

Bams


Bams can also call as lines or Bamboos stick. It consists of 1 to 9 lines or bamboos stick in each bam tiles. Bams so call “Suo” in mandarin.

Characters



Name of each character tiles represent ten thousand or “Wan” in mandarin.

28 honors tiles which consist of 16 of Wind tiles and 12 of Dragon tiles.

Winds



Wind tiles consist of East tiles, South tiles, West tiles and North tiles. In mandarin, the wind tiles is call “Dong”, “Nam”, “Xi” and “Pei”.

Dragons



Dragon tiles consist of 3 different characters which are red tile (“Zhong”), green tile (“Fa”) and white tile (“Pai”)

8 bonus tiles which consist 4 seasons and 4 different animals

Flowers



Flower tiles consist of 4 seasons and 4 different animals. You can also add 4 more flower to play more fun.

How to play Mahjong – Part 1

Before we start to learn how to play Mahjong, first get yourself a set of Mahjong to see what tiles in the Mahjong and the meaning of each tile. Each Mahjong set price is around USD40 (cheapest price) to USD150++ or in Malaysia price with around RM120 to RM500++. OK, let us start the training now;

A full set of Mahjong consists of 144 tiles which include 108 suit tiles (character tiles, dots tiles & line tiles), 28 honors tiles (wind tiles & dragon tiles) and 8 bonus tiles. Each of the tiles having different meaning, to able to win a game, we must make sure all the tiles we have are match to each others in order to win a game.

Simple Knowledge and Understanding of Mahjong

Mahjong is a four player’s game. It must be played with four players on a table and the game is goes around a circle. Each player got a change to draw a card from the tiles on table in a round of anti-clockwise circle and player can organize their titles into a winning format or so call winning hand to win the match. If the tiles haven’t get to the winning format, then player will need to throw one of the tiles or so call cards from their set of tiles they have.

Mahjong can be playing in many different ways. For those people who are just starting to play mahjong, they are choose to play in an easy way which is make your titles into a winning format and game the match. In this method, players no need to make their tiles to earn any point to match the game. They only need to make sure their tile is in a winning format.

For mature players, they are choose to play in points earn method. The meaning of point’s method is players need to organize his/her tiles into a winning format with getting points. The points that a player earns will consider the mark that he/she will get. Rules of point earning will be formatted by the players themselves. There are many way to earn a single point from tiles. A mature player will organize their tiles in a way to earn more points to win more marks.

Mahjong is a very strategy, flexible and varies games. In order to become an expert or professional player, more practices and strategy mind and thinking is important. But it also need a bit of luck with you to get a good and wonderful tile on your first get the tiles and luck in the turn of draw cards.

The History of Mahjong

Mahjong created since 4000 years before. During that time, Chinese aristocrats were the only people who know to play the game. Mahjong is a very mystery and interesting game and the rules of mahjong is fantastic. When the times China become a republic since 1911, Mahjong become a public knowledge of the world. The Mahjong is introduced to United States in 1920. With a short time, Mahjong becomes very famous and extending in the whole country. Unfortunately, Mahjong was played with different rules and become not standardized. But fortunately, during the year 1925, a standardized set of Mahjong rules was set. The standardized set of rules have been make the Mahjong become more fantastic and a lot of people would like to play Mahjong to spend their holiday or during the gathering.
